Originally certified to represent teaching assistants and demonstrators in 1993, AGSEM was the first union to represent graduate student employees in Quebec. AGSEM is now the largest labour union at McGill University, representing 3,000 teaching assistants, exam invigilators and course lecturers and instructors.

D’abord accrédité en 1993 comme syndicat des auxiliaires à
l’enseignement, l’AÉÉDEM fut ainsi le premier syndicat représentant
les étudiant(e)s diplômé(e)s employé(e)s au Québec. L’AÉÉDEM est
maintenant le plus grand syndicat de l’université McGill, comptant
environ 3000 membres, incluant les auxiliaires à l’enseignement, les
surveillants d’examens, les chargés de cours et les instructeurs.
